Lago Maggiore is a paradise for those who love running because there are many places that permit you to run and get fit.
Apart from some pedestrian areas, there is also a natural park and running paths along the river, where it’s also possible to do it with your dog.
Here are some of our best spots to run around Lago Maggiore:
Running in Arona
Being only 15 minutes away from Villa Simba makes Arona is the closest and easiest running spots to reach by the lake.
Morning time is definitely the best moment to run in Arona because it’s still very quiet and you get the best tranquility to enjoy the scenic view of Lago Maggiore

20 – 25 minutes
The path along the lake in Arona is pretty flat and easy, it’s all pedestrian areas although some parts are without barriers with the running vehicles.
Running in Pallanza
Running in Lago Maggiore along its finest promenade is something you should do so you can get a bingo! Getting fit and enjoying the stunning view of the lake at the same time.
From Villa Simba, it will take around 30 minutes by car to get to Pallanza.
It is better to avoid Friday morning to run in Pallanza because they have a weekly local market where it’s normally very busy and they block some road access.

25 – 30 minutes
The track along the lake in Pallanza is not as flat as the one in Arona as there are some ups and downs parts, it’s all pedestrian path with some part is shared lane with other vehicles without barriers.
Running at Parco dei Lagoni di Mercurago
Just in 5 minutes driving from Arona, there is a protected natural park called Parco dei Lagoni di Mercurago, home for some protected local flora and fauna.
It’s also a place where people keep their horses in a stable where you might also find a zebra or pony inside the park. The park is quite big and it offers many different paths where you can choose to run.

At least 5km and depending on the path you choose, you decide how long you want to run.
You can run at least 30 minutes and you decide how long you want to run.
As a protected natural park with many different paths to run, there are some flat and smooth parts but some others are rocky with some ups and downs.
You can find some very basic maps around the park to understand the track options, however, we suggest you follow Strada del Gatico as it’s less rocky and easy as running track.
Running in Fondotoce
It’s a point where the river meets the lake. A beautiful combination of nature where you can enjoy while running and probably have fun with your dog.
You can reach the starting point in less than 30 minutes from Villa Simba. So make sure you have enough time to go and come back.

45 – 50 minutes
Almost the whole path in Fondotoce is pretty flat and easy and it’s a full pedestrian area so it’s pretty safe if you run with your dog.
